Larry’s Short List of Free Sample Questions

The new Project Management Body of Knowledge 4th Edition (PMBOK® Guide) was published in 2008, and it is available to all Project Management Institute® members.  In addition to the guide, be sure to download the institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. (During the download process you will be asked to provide your username and password before you can download your copy.) Both these documents are the basis for most of the exam questions you will find on the Internet.

When looking using sample questions (free or purchased) it is important to know that it will not help you on the exam to memorize the answers you encounter. The aim of doing practice questions is to learn the “why” behind an answer.  My favorite way to use the online practice exams is to first take then exam, grade it, and then research correct answer. Most of the books that your purchase include page references back to the PMBOK® Guide. I like to track my research in a word processor. This gives me study guide for later.

Most of the sites below have upgraded their content to the 4th edition standards. If find other good sites (and there are many more), please let me know via the comments section below. I will be happy to evaluate the site and add it to my list.

Exam Preparation Kit includes 1600+ questions spread across 22 mock exams with explanations which are based on the certification exam pattern and are used to practice for the actual exam. I found these tests follow the actual exam pattern, and included detailed explanations for the questions.

Oliver Lehmann’s Project Management

Lehmann’s site includes 250 sample questions. There are separate links on his site for 75 free sample questions, 175 more sample questions. As an added bonus Lehmann has compiled his own list of links to over 3,000+ more free PMP prep questions.

Project Management Testbank

According to their web page, Project Management Testbank was re-branded in 2011 with the vision of providing fee and beneficial resources to all Project Management practitioners. Apparently, at some point that included a little too much unauthorized (i.e. copyrighted) material. Regardless of their past sins, the site has a good list of sample questions, is easy to navigate, and no registration is required.
